The Chao Phraya River is at the heart of ‘Old Bangkok'. Visitors are transported back in time with ancient monuments, traditional canal side homes and commercial cargo traffic plying the waterways. Numerous temples and palaces line the river banks. A romantic riverside meal to watch the sunset over Wat Arun is a must-do experience. A river and canal tour is another must-do activity in Bangkok. See the temples and palaces from the river, and see ancient riverside communities living in houses on stilts along the numerous canals. There is exclusive riverside dining at some of the world’s top hotels. The Mandarin Oriental, the Shangri La and the Peninsula Hotel all offer first class restaurants on the riverside. The Chao Phraya Express Boat will take you quickly up and down the river between the different attractions for around half a dollar a trip.
