Area Description
Sukhumvit is a very popular area for foreign visitors, and ex-pats working in Bangkok. Sukhumvit is the most ‘westernised’ part of Bangkok and provides a full range of services and amenities to suit European, Japanese and American tastes. The Sukhumvit Road area has a large number of side streets, known in Thai as ‘soi’. The odd numbered Soi are on the northside of the road, the even numbered Soi are on the southside. Sois 3 to 11 on the Sukhumvit Road are the busiest streets. They feature a number of very good mid-range restaurants and outside bars. For families we recommend the outside seating area at Gulliver’s Tavern for an international menu and good service. Sois 8 to 12 on the Sukhumvit Road feature the best restaurants in the area. Benjakiti Park is a good place to take children to escape the busy streets of Bangkok. Children will also enjoy the Planetarium near Soi 40 on the Sukhumvit Road. For shopping try one of the six shopping malls on the Sukhumvit Road, the best two being the Emporium and Terminal 21. |
