Area Description

By day Silom is the commercial and financial center of Bangkok, by night it becomes a lively and exciting area catering to a diverse range of tastes. Silom also has excellent transport links and is close to the riverside area and its major attractions.

Patpong Night Market is a major draw to tourists who come here for the lively atmosphere, souvenirs and counterfeit goods, such as watches.

For good food head towards one of the many modern Thai restaurants in the side streets off the Silom and Surawongse Roads. If the children are hankering after western food you will find branches of the major fast food franchises, such as McDonalds, on the Silom Road.

Roof top dining is a must-do activity in Silom. Try either the excellent Sirroco at the Lebua State Tower or Vertigo at the Banyan Tree Hotel.

Other good attractions include Thailand's top Thai Boxing stadium, Snake Farm (producing anti-venoms), the Blue Elephant Cooking School, the Traditional Thai Puppet Theater and the city’s largest Hindu temple.
